A two year project by g8artists at the N.T. Calke Park 2009 – 2010. Having visited Calke Park to explore its creative potential we were all inspired by the landscape surrounding the Abbey and felt it had possibilities for a collaborative project with the N.T. and the visiting public. As a group and as individuals, we have begun to explore areas of interest, themes and opportunities to create work. Our aim is to research, develop, produce and show work that encourages visitors to appreciate and access the special character of the landscape that is the property of Calke: the marks of time, industry and management interacting with the patterns and persistent energy of nature. Realising that the N.T. is interested in activities which increase public awareness and involvement we envisage that the project could benefit the trust and visitors in a variety of ways. We are working with the trust to discuss creative opportunities to develop ideas and encourage public involvement. The purpose of the first exhibition in September 2008 (images on the homepage)was to showcase the newly renovated Riding School and introduce the project by showing past work that typifies g8’s creative approach. Objectives: 2009: Phase 1 – Spring Identify sources of inspiration: The marks of time, industry and management interacting with the patterns and persistent energy of nature. e.g.: ancient trees and stumps pathways, bridges and tunnels the human footprint in the landscape.
