CREATIVE PIECES FROM THE TIMESCAPE EXHIBITION 2009 & 2010 AND SOME INSPIRATIONAL IMAGES USED FOR THE WORK.

Currently, I am working with the g8artists, on the two year project ‘Timescape’, at the National Trust’s, Calke Abbey . My current images on the website show work from the 2009 and 2010 ‘Timescape’ exhibitions, as well as inspirational images used for the work. A number of series pieces and others with interrelated parts were created. The relationship between the parts, their proximity to each other and their individual balance and vibrancy was challenging. This approach is not only rewarding for me as an artist but also reflects the way we all perceive the environment, not just seeing one view but many at any one time.

The imperatives of conservation and the associated political issues continue to be an integral part of my practise. The ancient trees and parkland of Calke Abbey highlight the value of forests and the importance of planting and conservation. Through searching, observation, photographing and drawing in the park, the fragments of nature strewn under trees, the textures of the bark and the old stumps became fascinating indicators of the evolution of this unique environment.

In addition, my work contains discarded and recycled materials to highlight the waste of resources in society and the ensuing environmental concerns. The found objects and materials often have a personal significance but are incorporated to express more overarching truths.

Calke Abbey Park supports the importance of trees for the present and future generations. I hope my work helps to raise the awareness of the need for forests and the conservation of the natural environment.
